Warriors Beat Caldwell in Women`s Tennis

CALDWELL, N.J. – Freshmen Allison Bean and Kasia Slezak had third-set singles victories and Bean and sophomore Annie Vega pulled out a close win at No. 2 doubles as East Stroudsburg University notched a 5-4 win over Caldwell in non-conference women’s tennis on Monday.

Senior Amanda Kaufman had a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Paige Alden at first singles and teamed with junior Rabecca Lausch for an 8-3 win at first doubles as the Warriors got their first win of the season after a 9-0 loss at Wilkes last week in their season opener.

Bean and Vega had a 9-8 victory at No. 2 doubles to give ESU a 2-1 lead going into the six singles matches. Bean won the third-set tiebreaker, 11-9, at No. 2 singles after splitting the first two sets with Gwynne Alden, 6-0, 3-6. Caldwell won at the third through fifth spots but Slezak pulled out a 6-4, 0-6, 10-2 victory at No. 6.

Kaufman earned her 31st career win in singles and 27th in doubles for the Warriors. Bean and Slezak both had their first career singles victories and Vega’s doubles win was the fourth of her career.

ESU returns to action with two matches this weekend at the Bloomsburg Invitational.
