Sony Releasing Steve Jobs Movie

By Joe Vena

Major film studio Sony Pictures is in talks about releasing a biopic about late Apple mogul Steve Jobs based on his soon-to-be-released biography penned by Walter Isaacson.

Executives at the studio are working on a deal that would give them film rights to the book, according to Mike Fleming at blog Deadline New York. The book, entitled simply Steve Jobs, is set to be released late October.

Sony has declined comment regarding the book deal, but rumor circulation suggests that Mark Gordon (Saving Private Ryan) will produce the film alongside Management 360, which was the production company behind The Social Network, another film chronicling a technology magnate’s escalation to power.

The biography, which had already been highly anticipated, became even more of a popular commodity with the news of Jobs’ death on October 5th, moving its original release date up from November 21st to October 24th. It is currently No. 1 on Amazon’s list of best-selling books based solely on preorders.

The film will be the second depicting Jobs’ iconic work with Apple. The first was The Pirates of Silicon Valley, which depicted early competition between Apple and Microsoft.

Although published biographies about Jobs have been numerous, Isaacson’s is being promoted as the only one that was written not only with the Apple co-founder’s permission, but also his full participation. It includes two years’ worth of interviews with his family, his associates, and Jobs himself.

“Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published,” reads a promotional release for the book. “He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against
