Warriors Women’s Soccer Blanks Mercyhurst, 3-0, for Fourth Straight Shutout

Seniors Elva Composto, Megan Keiser, Sarah Rothrock, Linda Martine, Devon Miniscalco and Melissa Myers after Wednesday's win over Mercyhurst.

Junior Cree Julian, sophomore Kerri McClay and senior Megan Keiser did the scoring and sophomore Brittain Wagner made four saves, including a stop on a penalty kick, as East Stroudsburg University posted its fourth straight shutout with a 3-0 victory over Mercyhurst on Senior Night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Warriors leveled their record at 8-8-1 (4-8-1 PSAC) by notching four straight shutouts for the second straight season and just the third time in school history. Mercyhurst (7-9-1, 4-8-1) held a 15-12 advantage in shots, but ESU found the net three times and the Lakers were just off the mark for most of the night.

Wagner made her biggest save with the score 1-0 early in the second half, denying Aina Torres on a penalty kick just two minutes before McClay earned a PK at the other end and buried it for her fifth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.

Julian scored her fourth goal of the year in the 25th minute and Keiser finished the scoring in the 88th minute with just 2:03 remaining, catching Mercyhurst keeper Rachel Griepsma off her line for her second goal of the season and the seventh of her career.

ESU, which rattled off its previous shutouts against Mansfield (1-0), Shippensburg (1-0) and Charleston (4-0), matched the 2010 team with its fourth straight shutout and is one game behind the 1993 team that had five straight, the most in school history.

The Warriors recognized their six seniors before the game – Elva Composto, Keiser, Linda Martine,Devon MiniscalcoMelissa Myers and Sarah Rothrock. Martine made her 75th career start at back and Miniscalco made her 65th career start. Keiser and Rothrock were also in the starting lineup.
