The East Stroudsburg University chapter of Psi Chi (The International Honor Society in Psychology) and the student-run organization, the Psychological Association, will be holding MindFest 2012 on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, from 2-4pm in the Keystone Room. This is an annual event held here at ESU and many students thoroughly enjoy attending the event.

To briefly explain MindFest, it is a day dedicated to promoting and raising awareness of activities and issues in the field of psychology. Topics that will be presented include psychology-related job opportunities, “real-world” psychological applications, personality and compatibility tests, stress management techniques, psychological displays, games, prizes, and much more.

The most amazing aspect of MindFest is the event’s charitable demeanor: our organization will be raffling prizes donated from local businesses in order to raise money for charities.

All proceeds made during the event are donated to Lutheran Social Services, located in St. Croix, as well as our local Monroe County Bushkill Outreach. Offering more information, Lutheran Social Services is a behavioral facility that houses and assists in the lives of mentally and physically handicapped adults and children in hopes of helping them live the most independent lifestyle possible.

As St. Croix suffers from limited funding, health care and medical assistance is very scarce on the island, often forcing them to rely heavily on donations and volunteer work to help the people of their nation. Bushkill Outreach offers basic material support to people we can call our neighbors and local residents in their time of need.
So come check Mindfest out, buy a raffle ticket, and support some worthy causes. What’s the worse that can happen? Maybe you might actually have some fun learning something? Somehow, that doesn’t seem like such a horrible thing.

As one student put it, “There’s just something about supporting your peers and professors and learning something new in a different setting that makes for wonderful memories. It’s just fun.”
