Big Sean: Sherman’s Statement

It has been suggested that ESU’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) has more to do with the negative reviews of the Big Sean concert than the Sherman Theater. After all, CAB is responsible for booking talent, promoting the event on campus, and keeping the price affordable for students.

During the CAB-sponsored Sean Kingston concert, there were many student complaints about the sound and performance.

The Sherman Theater is nationally recognized as a respectable establishment, and many large acts continue to book the Sherman Theater as a venue.

To expose any discrepancies between student perception and actual responsibility, the Stroud Courier extended an opportunity for the Sherman Theater to defend itself against any negative comments about the Big Sean concert.

In a brief phone interview, Sherman Theater Facility Director and Public Relations Manager Richard Berkowitz responded directly to the comments of students interviewed by Kate Conklin.

Commenting on the length of the performance, sound, atmosphere, and crowd, Berkowitz stated, “CAB started the show at 6PM, but Big Sean only agreed to perform from 8-9PM. This had nothing to do with the Sherman Theater.”

Berkowitz continued, “It was CAB who ran the show […] the show set up wasn’t most conducive to the party atmosphere. [The Sherman Theater] hosts many events, but this was all dictated by CAB. There was room for hundreds more, [and the concert was] by no means over crowded or sold out. The only show that the Sherman has ever been responsible for sound issues was the Sean Kingston concert.”

Berkowitz went on to state that the Sherman Theater is “ranked #58 nationally for club-sized venues” and “Big Sean was very impressed with the venue, and felt that he had a great show”.
