Matthew Copeland is an English Secondary English Education Major at ESU.  He was nominated by David Mazure, who is both an art professor at ESU and the adviser to the Student Art Association (SAA).

Professor Mazure nominated Matthew for his participation in Rockets, Leadership Advisory Board, his community service work, and his participation as President of SAA. Since Matthew has taken office, the SAA has done two times as many events and recruited more members than ever before.  He also spent the entirety of last summer in New Orleans participating in a nonprofit organization that removes mold media from old houses in the outskirts of the historic city.

While being an outstanding student with good grades, Matthew stays involved on campus and mentors local troubled kids in the Rockets program.  Matthew sets a great example for the children that he mentors and will one day be a wonderful teacher.  Upon receiving this award Matthew would like to thank:  “David Mazure, for being my beard mentor and for nominating me.  And the Art Association because they’re an amazing group of individuals and working with them has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life.”
