On April 19, ESU will host Relay for Life at Koehler Field- house. The event runs from 7 PM to 7 AM, and all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

This event will be open to the public. Teams can be made until the day before the event, and individuals can register online at http://www.relayforlife.org/. Signing up for a team costs a $10 commitment fee per person.

Teams should consist of at least six people. There is no team member limit. Those not interested in joining a team are still welcome to attend.

No one is required to run. If possible, the Relay for Life Committee requests only that one person from each team is on the track at all times, whether he or she be walking or running.

Activities will include an electronic bull, carnival games, dodge ball, karaoke and more.

WESS 90.3, the ESU radio station, will provide music, and Aramark will run a barbeque, which students can redeem with their dinner swipes.

Later in the night, CiCi’s Pizza will provide food, all profits of which will go to the cause.

“We have been working to put this event together since the beginning of the semester,” said Jessyca Ligh, President of Colleges Against Cancer.

“This event is important,” said Ligh. “Cancer affects us all. We need to be educated on the disease, and we need to work to find a cure.”

“My grandfather died of liver cancer,” said Hannah Wall- ner. “He was an old guy, but it was rough to watch him go. It’s great that the American Cancer Society is working to prevent others from going through that.”

On Saturday, March 16 of this year, Kathy Moses passed away. Kathy was the guest speaker at last year’s event, and is wife to Bob Moses, ESU’s director of residence life and housing.

“This year is commemorating Kathy’s life and her fight against cancer,” said Ligh. “We want as many people to come out and support this cause as possible, for Kathy’s sake.”
