East Stroudsburg University, fresh off of a 40-6 rout of Cheyney, had another big game on Saturday night, this time scoring 48 points en route to a 48-28 win in front of the home crown at Eiler – Martin Stadium.

It took the Warriors just 2 minutes and 47 seconds to get on the board when tailback Robert Healy scored on a 14-yard run.

Just two minutes after Clarion tied the game on a 3-yard touchdown run by running back Darelle Carson, ESU quarterback Matt Soltes connected with wide receiver Robert Blieler for a 37-yard touchdown to give the Warriors the 14-7 lead going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter it was more Warriors as Robert Healy scored on a 12-yard run for his second touchdown of the night.

It was a solid night overall for Healy who ran for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 carries.

The Warriors’ rushing attack was at it again a little over three minutes later. This time, it was Gerald Van De Cruz who took it in from the 1 yard line to give the Warriors the 28-7 lead.

Shortly before the end of the half, Matt Soltes struck again, connencting once more with Robert Blieler for a 7 yard touchdown.

It was the second touchdown for the senior wide receiver, who finished with 8 receptions for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

It was also the second touchdown pass for Matt Soltes, who threw for nearly 330 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

After Clarion went 3 and out to start the second half, the Warriors picked up right where they left off in the first half.

With a little under six minutes left in the third quarter, Matt Soltes connected with a wide-open Steven Jones for his third touchdown of the game, and the only touchdown for the Warriors tight end, to give ESU a commanding 42-7 lead late in the third quarter.

Darelle Carson scored on a one-yard run for his second touchdown of the game to cut the Warriors’ lead down to 42-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

Matt Soltes’ 3 yard pass to fullback Thomas Tippett put the Warriors up 48-14 after kicker Taylor Groff’s extra point attempt was blocked.

Darelle Carson ran for his third touchdown of the game with 6:21 left in the game, making it 48-21.

Clarion’s Chris Liberto scored on a 2 yard touchdown run to cut the score to 48-28, but by that point the game was all but over as ESU walked out of Eiler – Martin Stadium with a 48-28 win to give head coach Denny Douds his 241st win, passing the University of Texas’ Mack Brown and legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes for 25th on the list of all time wins in all divisions (Division I, Division II and Division III).

It was a record breaking night for ESU’s Matt Soltes. The sophomore quarterback completed 29 of 34 passes for 444 yards and 4 touchdowns.

His 85.3% completion percentage surpassed the previous school record, set by Soltes himself, of 81.1%.

Soltes also had 37 rushing yards of his own giving him a total of 481 yards, which is 12th highest in school history and 2nd highest total of Soltes’ career.

Soltes also continued his active streak of passes without an interception, which currently stands at 173, 3 more than the previous school record of 170 passes set by Jimmy Terwilliger during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

The PSAC record is reportedly 200 passes, set by Zach Zulli of Shippensburg last season.

The Warriors have now scored a combined 88 points in their last two games.

They will look to win their third straight next Saturday when they travel down to West Chester to take on the Golden Rams, who improved to 5-0 after defeating California (Pa.) 38-31.
