It is the end of an era. For the past 16 years Marc Jacobs, a well known high end designer, has not only been the head designer of his labels, Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs, but he has been the creative director of Louis Vuitton.

Marc Jacobs revolutionized the Louis Vuitton French Fashion House that we now know and love. He incorporated color, print, and design elements to what once was only a leather-goods company.

In 2001 Marc Jacobs launched, for Louis Vuitton, the popular Stephen Sprouse collaboration. The collection featured a graffiti print of the Louis  Vuitton name, that was continuously repeated on the material.

Marc was not only continuously wowing audiences with his creativity in the collections, but also on the runway. Marc made Louis Vuitton fashion shows quite an experience with his creativity. Marc has used very elaborate sets for the fashion shows such as a merry-go-round, fountain, escalators, and even using a train.

Even though Marc Jacobs is leaving, he will still be a very busy man. Marc recently launched a makeup line that is carried in Sephora.

Although the main reason for his recent departure from Louis Vuitton was said to be so he can focus on making his company, Marc Jacobs in to an IPO.

While it is not decided yet who will take over the role of creative director at Louis Vuitton, there have been rumors that Nicolas Ghesquière, who used to be the creative director for Balenciaga, would be the most likely candidate for the position.

According to WWD Bernard Arnault, Louis Vuitton’s chairman and chief executive officer, was quoted in saying, “No decision is done. We have to, after the show, think and decide. But no decision will be made immediately.”
