The Warrior Elite will host the first-ever Zumba Costume Party at the Mattioli Recreation Center on October 28, 2013, from 7 PM to 9 PM as part of the events taking place during Homecoming week at East Stroudsburg University (ESU).

This event is free of charge and costumes are strongly encouraged.

“This event will be open to everyone—faculty, staff, and students with an ESU ID,” said Audra Organetti, Vice President of Spirit and Traditions for the Warrior Elite.

The event is designed for everyone to interact with the campus community and community members, dance, exercise, and enjoy themselves.

“We are looking to create new traditions and bring back traditions that have faded away,” said Organetti.

Costumes are strongly encouraged and prizes will be awarded for various categories like most original, most traditional, best homemade, goriest, funniest, and best group or couple.

The requirements for costumes are simple—“be mindful and appropriate for a school function,” said Organetti.

The Warrior Elite is hoping for a good turnout, as well as making this a new tradition for ESU students.

As an organization, the Warrior Elite is attempting to create and establish new events and traditions for students at ESU.

The Warrior Elite is a volunteer group of undergraduates who serve as ambassadors to the University as well as the ESU Foundation. Representing the student body, the Warrior Elite will host the Zumba Costume Party, and can be found assisting other events such as Commencement, Homecoming, and The President’s Gala.

Other events marking the beginning of Homecoming’s week-long events will be the 6th Annual Rec-X 5K Run and Mile Fun Walk at ESU’s Eiler-Martin (Football) Stadium.

Students, faculty, and community members who register are asked to be at the stadium a half hour before the race start time, 8 AM. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 100 students who register online for this event.

“The proceeds will go to the Recreation Center and Department of Exercise Science,” said Rachel Luehrs, a Fitness Graduate Assistant at ESU.

Several more events will be held throughout the week of October 28th to November 2nd.
