Where can you see ESU’s mascot Burgy dancing to “Gas Pedal” dressed in a giant banana costume? Only at the Zumba Costume Party.

On Monday, October 28, 2013, the Warrior Elite hosted their first annual Zumba Costume Party at Mattioli Recreation Center from 7 to 9 PM as part of ESU homecoming week festivities.

The event was created and planned by Warrior Elite Vice President of Spirt and Traditions Audra Organetti.

“We wanted to create a new tradition on campus,” said Organetti. “We wanted to encourage a fun, sober activity students could participate in during homecoming week.”

Attendees were encouraged to dress in costume. Prizes were awarded throughout the night to students who wore costumes.

ESU student Jenny Bront  dressed as a Sim and won Most Original Costume and also took home the prize for the dance-off. Johanna Wister won Most Enthusiastic, Katerina and Anastasia Veloudos won Best Homemade Costume dressed as Lady Gaga and Chozo, Elizabeth Harbison won Most Traditional Costume dressed as a devil, and Emily Mushlitz and Kaitlyn Torquati won Best Couple Costume as Minions.

“I think we had a great turnout, said Organetti. “I loved seeing Burgy dance around in a giant banana costume. He shocked everyone with his awesome dance moves.”

The night ended with the Zumba instructors teaching the crowd the “Thriller” dance that was to be performed at the Dance Mob on Halloween night.
