When the Seattle Seahawks take to the field at MetLife Stadium on Sunday to take on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, East Stroudsburg University will be represented for the fifth time in eight years—this time by Seattle assistant special teams coordinator John Glenn.

Former Warriors linebacker John Glenn is currently in his second season as assistant special teams coordinator for the Seahawks.

The Warriors were guaranteed to have a representative in this year’s Super Bowl when Glenn and the Seahawks took on the San Francisco 49ers, where another former Warrior, 49ers defensive coordinator Vick Fangion (’80), is currently the defensive coordinator.

From 2003-2005, Glenn was a three-year letter winner at linebacker and a starter on the Warriors’ 2004 and 2005 NCAA playoff teams under head coach Denny Douds.

He helped the Warriors capture the Northeast Region title and advance to the NCAA Division II semifinals in 2005. He started all 14 games, making 70 tackles with two sacks, two interceptions, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Glenn had 55 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 12 games for the 2004 team which had the first NCAA postseason win in school history.

He finished his ESU career with 160 tackles, 11 TFL, 8.5 sacks, five interceptions, eight pass breakups, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

With a Seahawks victory on February 2, Glenn would become just the second former Warrior and current coach to win a Super Bowl.

The only other former Warrior and current coach to do so is former center Pat Flaherty (’78) who won both Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI as offensive line coach for the New York Giants.

Harry Hiestand ‘83, currently offensive line coach at Notre Dame, was the offensive line coach with the Chicago Bears in 2006 when they went to Super Bowl XLI where they lost 29-17 to the Indianapolis Colts.

Vic Fangio (‘80) represented ESU in Super Bowl XLVII last year as defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, where they narrowly lost to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31.

Super Bowl XLVIII takes place this Sunday at 6:30 pm and can be seen on FOX.
