Electronic dance music, more commonly known as EDM, is becoming the new music craze.

At ESU, it seems to be gaining popularity with the reoccurring Barstool tours and other similar events.

But what’s all the rave?

Electronic dance music is also known as club music, or simply dance music.

EDM is a set of percussive electronic music genres that is normally played in a dance-based area such as nightclubs.

The music is often used by deejays and is often used in a sort of mix by the disc jockey.

The style of music began gaining reputation in the United States in the late 2000s.

Daft Punk is one of the first mainstream artists to be noticed using EDM.

Soon after other artists like David Guetta, Akon, and even The Black Eyed Peas (“Boom Boom Pow”) began using EDM music.

The music is often used in night clubs or at rave-like events and accompanied by flashing neon lights.

In the past few years, EDM has gained popularity and can be heard in many mainstream musicians.

Most award shows even have their own category for the music.

The Grammy’s give away an award for Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica Album.

The genre of music even has its own music festivals such as the Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Zoo, and the Ultra Music Festival.

EDM is popular with college students because this is what they listen to when they go out and dance at parties, bars, or clubs.

This genre of music is easy to dance to because of the upbeat songs.

With events like Barstool Blackout that play this music, ESU students have taken more of a liking to the EDM music genre.

The music tends to be a feel good listen and makes you want to dance along  even with your ear buds in.

Overall, the Electronic Dance Music craze seems pretty well earned.

The music is fun, energetic, and apparently here to stay for a while.

So if you have not already gotten on board with the EDM craze, it might be time to join in.
