The ESU ice hockey team won their game on February 8, 2014, against Lehigh University 7-2. This was the first time ESU had defeated Lehigh in over four years.

Senior and captain Tom Fallon scored two important goals. ESU’s goaltender Robert Elefante stopped Lehigh’s offense by blocking 32 shots on goal.

ESU played great defense, including when Senior Jon Fisher gave up his body and blocked the puck from going into an empty net.

Within only two minutes into the game, ESU killed a tripping penalty, and even had a few shots on goal.

At 14:03, ESU went on a power play, and scored the first goal of the game. Next, Tom Fallon scored two goals in a row, beginning when Lehigh gave up another penalty at 11:05. A few minutes later he scored again and gave ESU a 3-0 lead.

ESU continued to control the ice in the second period, but Lehigh did have three great opportunities that led to a goal. Lehigh’s first goal was scored when ESU gave up an elbowing call.

Shortly after Lehigh’s goal, ESU woke up, and dominated the rest of the period. ESU took a comfortable lead at 5 to 1 scoring two goals at 11:37 and 10:57.

Both teams had several great chances in the final twenty minutes of the game. Lehigh University came out of the locker room on a mission and scored their second goal at 16:12. ESU quickly answered back. At 14:19, ESU went on the power play, and scored their sixth goal.

ESU’s final goal of the game occurred at 6:43 when the team delivered great passes inside the attack zone. With that play, ESU took a commanding 7-2 lead.

“The guys played great today, we had a full team, and in the end it showed on the score board,” said ESU’s Head Coach Dave Nufrio.

ESU’s biggest focus is to get ready for the upcoming playoffs.

“I think the playoffs will go well. As long as we come into the playoffs with the same attuitde as we had today, we could play against any team, “ said forward Tom Fallon.

ESU Hockey will next play on February 22, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem, PA.
