Earth Day at ESU

Earth DayBy Taylor Zelinski

As April 22 draws near, so does Earth Day.

Earth Day first started in 1970 and has been celebrated every year since. This holiday is focused on saving the environment by reducing the amount of materials we use, reusing what we already have, and recycling some of the things we are done using.

This day helps bring awareness to how we can come together to make the world a better place, not only for the current generation, but also for our children and their children.

This year, Dr. Seid’s special events class will be teaming up with the Earth Day Committee, SAA Inc, and Stony Acres to create a unique experience for students and faculty.

This event is free and will be held on April 22 on the Quad from 12:00PM-4:00PM.

There will be booths set up that will have information about Earth Day and tips on how to keep our planet green. The theme of this year’s celebration is water.

Repurposed items of clothing will be presented in a fashion show, and there will also be some outfits in the fashion show that show more extreme elements of using recycled items, such as potato chip bags, boxes, soda tabs, and more.

Throughout the event, there will be trivia, and prizes will be awarded to those who can answer the questions correctly. Guest speakers and bands will also be performing during the event.

This year’s Earth Day event aims to help all ESU students learn about our environment while having fun with projects like making that old t-shirt into a new headband for the gym.
