But first, let me take a selfie

Social media has taken over the world.

Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Vine are the headliners, and we are the audience.

Being in the audience has challenged users to stand out from the crowd with eye-catching makeup, a controversial slogan on a t-shirt, or shaving half our heads and wearing “nerd glasses.”

The perfect selfie encompasses the ability to get the perfect lighting, the perfect pixel count, and the perfect angle.

After making sure all parts are in place, it is time to upload and wait for the adoration known as “likes” to circulate.

Once we have reached a pivotal rank in the world of social media, then we can continue with the day.

But what actually goes into a perfect selfie? What does selfie even mean? Does a good selfie count in the real world?

According to Oxford Dictionary, selfie is defined as “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.”

There are multiple blogs and videos on how to perfect a selfie, and here is a complied list so one can achieve internet popularity:

Set the Scene

Make sure to have a well-lit area to capture the perfect light, whether it’s natural or artificial. The light should be in front of you to capture the yellow specks in your green eyes or the expensive highlights you just got done.

Background

The days of the bathroom mirror selfie are over, due to overworked Apple techs developing a front facing camera.

With that in mind, make sure you have a pretty background.

Nature is always a hit as well as inside your bedroom, but make sure it’s neat.

No one wants to see dirty socks or an unmade bed.

Beware of the Photo Bomb

Before you snap your selfie, be sure no one or no animal could pop up unexpected in the background.

New Haircut, New Selfie

When you get a new haircut or new accessory, be sure to find the perfect angle to highlight it.

A straight on selfie is best for the new haircut and a head tilt will show the new earrings.

Smile

Nothing is worse when taking a selfie and you try and give the smoldering look. Your pearly whites will do just fine.

The No-Nos

Please, for the sake of our eyes, no more duck lips, no more “caught sleeping”, and no more “oops the camera went off.” We know you aren’t sleeping.

Why are we so obsessed with selfies?

A selfie is how you want the world to see you.

You want them to see the best angles and the best sides of you.

It is also a shallow way to obtain self-validation by how many “likes” you can get.

A selfie can be fun if you follow the steps above and remember the no-nos.

Strike a pose!
