On Saturday, April 26, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) held a drive-in movie event featuring The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The movie is based on the second book in the Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins.

The movie chronicles the events following characters Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark’s triumph of the seventy-fourth Hunger Games, an event in which competitors unwillingly fight to the death.

Katniss’ life is turned upside down when the series’ antagonist, President Snow, decides to add a surprising twist to the year’s Hunger Games event.

The drive-in movie took place on the quad located near the Keystone Room and invited any and all who wanted to participate.

Free snacks and drinks, including freshly popped popcorn, were offered courtesy of CAB.

When asked how she felt about the event, Savannah Doyle, Cinema Chair for CAB, commented, “It was a nice turn out. There were a lot more people than last year.”

In addition to conventional movie refreshments, a campfire was set up on the quad for marshmallow roasting and s’mores making.

A large group of students and community members stood around the campfire on the cold night.

Lian Mlodzienski, a freshman majoring in biology and secondary education, said, “I loved the idea of making s’mores. It really fit the theme of the movie.”

Zachary Gotthardt, a junior majoring in marine science, said, “It was a perfect date night event.”

This event was open to more than just ESU students. People of all ages came to enjoy the film, including Baunu Ebrahimi, a sixth grader at J.T. Lambert Intermediate School.

Baunu said, “It was fun and relaxing, but very cold. At least I got to hang out with my big brother.”

Movies on the quad will continue to occur thanks to CAB’s Cinema Committee.

Basir Ali, CAB’s secretary, said, “It was a very good turnout despite all of the events today; we can’t wait to do it next semester.”
