The Warriors women’s soccer team faced off against the Mountaineers of Mansfield on Saturday, September 13, at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The 1-1 Warriors were looking for their second win after their 2-0 win against Edinboro in their opening game.

The first half started with the Warriors maintaining possession and looking to take an early lead with high quality shots that could have ended up as goals.

Both teams were trying to gain an edge by scoring the first goal of the game as time slowly decreased in the first half.

During the first half, the Warriors and Mountaineers were tied on shots 5-5, while East Stroudsburg was winning in corner kicks 3-1.

The first half concluded with the Warriors and Mountaineers still scoreless, both teams looked eager to come out at halftime to try and take the lead.

The second half whistle blew with both teams knotted up at zero and looking to pull ahead. In the 63rd minute freshman midfielder Sammy Ortiz scored a goal that would give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage over the Mountaineers.

This goal was Ortiz’s first career goal with East Stroudsburg. Her goal came from a scramble in front of the net.

With the Warriors scoring their first goal and taking the lead, it was time to play solid defense.

With the second half winding down, the Warriors were looking to capture the win and move to 2-1 on the season.

The final whistle sounded and the Warriors had secured their second win of the season and their second straight victory in the PSAC.

Freshman goalkeeper Jules Harris got her second straight career shutout for the ESU Warriors with three saves in the game.

East Stroudsburg had the advantage in shots 10-8 while in corner kicks they held an advantage of 10-3.

The Warriors women’s soccer team will be away for both games next weekend in Erie, PA against Gannon and Mercyhurst on September 19 and 20 respectively.

The next home game will be on Wednesday, September 24, against the Bloomsburg Huskies at 7:00 PM.
