The American Cancer Association will be holding their annual Relay For Life at ESU this June. It will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 13, and continue until 10:00 AM the next day.

This relay will be much larger than usual because the Pocono Mountain, Bushkill, and Stroudsburg relays will be coming together for one large event.

Attendance numbers for the Bushkill relay have dropped in the past few years, so the committee members of the event hope that combining the three communities will result in larger numbers.

The theme is “Lights…Camera…Relay.” Each team will select a type of cancer, do research, and find a celebrity that currently has or has had the cancer. They then have to make a Hollywood Star with the name of the celebrity’s names.

Participants are encouraged to sign up early for an optimal selection of on-field locations and the chance to research the cancer that interests them the most. The locations are distributed on a first come first serve basis.

There is a fee of $10.00 per person to join a team, and each team member is asked to set a personal goal for how much they want to collect in donations prior to the start of the event. To sign up, visit the American Cancer Association’s website.

The 24-hour relay is a family event for all ages. There will be live music for entertainment, as well as many activities.

For any individuals interested in the planning and coordination of the event, committee meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month, starting in October and continuing through May.

The kickoff meeting for the 2015 relay will be on October 14 at 6:30 PM at the Stroud Regional Police Department’s conference room.

More information on games, tournaments, raffles, and fundraisers that will be present prior to and during Relay For Life will be released as planning continues in the upcoming months.

Although the relay itself is not until June, preparation has already begun. The planning committee has high hopes that this relay will be the start of a new experience to help raise awareness and donations for the fight against cancer.
