In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, the Multicultural Affairs is organizing an event called the Warrior Deportes.

This event will be held in the Mattioli Recreation Center on October 2 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Warrior Deportes is an event created to explore the sports and dances made popular by the Hispanic culture.

Warrior Deportes is offering an ESU “World Cup” Soccer Tournament. The tournament will allow participants to pick a country of their choice and represent them in the competition.

If anyone is interested, all they need do is show up to the event willing to participate. There is no preparation to be done beforehand.

Not into soccer? No need to worry, you are more than welcome to sit back and watch the affair, or take place in any other concurrently running activities.

Other events taking place in the Rec Center that night include salsa and Zumba dancing. If you are interested in exercising, dancing, or both, Zumba is the event for you. There is no dress code.

Merely show up in comfortable clothes, and be ready to exercise to music. Zumba will be held from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Also, ESU’s Latin Dance Team, Pura Esencia, will be hosting salsa dance lessons from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Whether you are a dancer or not, come to the event to learn all the fancy techniques or watch at no charge.

Soccer, Zumba, and salsa can be a tiring trio. There will be many healthy refreshments offered to everyone.

All of the refreshments will promote awareness of Hispanics battling both high blood pressure and diabetes, so be sure to take notice.

“The turnout has been excellent these past 2 years. We had over 50 people come last year just for Zumba alone. They really loved it,” said the director of Multicultural Affairs Cornelia Sewell-Allen.

So grab your dancing shoes or cleats and come help celebrate Hispanic Heritage month.
