Time to Branch Out

College is a place of opportunity and diversity. While in college, you will meet all different kinds of people who come from various backgrounds and lifestyles.

It is important to take advantage of the opportunities and build connections in college.

We all have heard the saying, “It is not about what you know, but rather whom you know.”

Connections can become bridges to help you achieve goals you have set for your personal life and career.

For some, building connections may be easier than for others.

Some students have naturally outgoing personalities and can spark up a conversation with almost anyone.

For them, connection building will come with ease.

But what about those students who may not necessarily be the extroverts of the bunch?

Not to worry. There is an opportunity for those who fit into this category too.

Joining clubs is a great way to meet new people. Clubs build a sense of community.

Being among so many people on campus may lead some students to feel lost or like they do not fit in.

Joining a club may help aid in that sense of belonging many desire to have as a college student.

Bre’ana Rawlins, a freshman here at ESU, spoke briefly about the benefits of joining clubs.

She said, “Getting involved helps you realize other people have the same viewpoint as you.”

It is safe to say that college is one of the prominent places where the world meets.

Many times, we think we are so different from others and fail to see we share a lot more in common than meets the eye.

Efia King, a senior here at ESU, gave her in-depth perspective on the benefits of joining clubs.

She explained, “I’ve been very involved on campus since I was a freshman, and it has truly made my college experience.”

“Currently, I am serving as the Vice President of Student Senate, and I am happy to be able to have this platform to advocate for the student body. I hope to make a good impact,” King said.

Becoming involved helps you feel like more than just a number.

Do not miss out on your opportunity to become an active member of your college community.

There is a club for you. Find something you are interested in on campus and join. You will not regret the decision you made.

After all, it is not just about joining a club. It is about building a community.
