The Pocono Community Theater is holding a free showing of the movie “Hook” during East Stroudsburg University’s Homecoming Week from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on October 23.

Students can fill their megaphones from Monday’s Spirit Kick off with free popcorn, and if they bring a canned good or pantry item, a free soda will be rewarded as well.

All donated items will benefit the Salvation Army’s food bank and be taken to them after the event.

For last year’s Homecoming, the Pocono Community Theater showed “Nightmare on Elm Street.”

This year the Homecoming Committee decided that “Hook” was the right choice as a tribute to the late Robin Williams.

The 1991 movie features Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan who returns to Never Land and encounters renowned characters such as Captain Hook, played by Dustin Hoffman, and Tinkerbell, played by Julia Roberts.

The manager of the Pocono Community Theater, Courtney Tolino, said, “I think having a free movie as part of Homecoming is a great way to get the students involved in an activity outside of the campus. This is a fun, safe event that everyone can participate in.”

She continued, “PCT tries to support ESU to have more of a presence in the community. We want people to come into East Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg and know this is a college town. This is just one small way of continuing the collaboration with ESU and the community in a positive way.”

Along with Tolino, Timothy Hahn, an admissions counselor at ESU, approached the Pocono Community Theater and suggested showing a movie during Homecoming.

The Homecoming committee made the final decision on the movie and decided it would be a good way to honor Robin Williams.

“We hope from this experience students will understand the importance of giving to those in need and enjoy themselves while helping others,” said Hahn.

Students can enjoy this classic 1991 Robin William’s flick, give back to others in need, and enjoy Homecoming weekend in a comfy and welcoming environment.
