On November 15 the Strauser Gallery Committee will be hosting an art exhibition in the Sterling Strauser Gallery in the ESU Innovation Center, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, which will feature the art of “The Strauser Circle.”

The gallery, which officially opened in May of 2012, features the works of Strauser, who lived and painted in East Stroudsburg from 1928 to 1995.

The gallery’s initial collection was made possible thanks to a generous donation of 114 of Strauser’s paintings by philanthropists and art dealers, Grey and Linda Carter.

Grey Carter is a private art dealer and artists’ representative. In 1964, after meeting Strauser, Carter began buying and selling works of art to meet his desire to acquire a collection.

His generous donation of Strauser’s paintings is his gift to ESU and intended to honor Strauser, who was his longtime friend.

This year’s show will include some of those donated works, but will highlight significant pieces of work from members of the “Strauser Circle” of artists.

The “Strauser Circle” is made up of a group of artists that Strauser and his wife, Dorothy, who was also an artist, discovered and promoted. The artists that will be featured are Victor Joseph Gatto, Justin McCarthy, Jack Savitsky, Joseph Polinski, and others.

The cost per person is $50 and pre-registration is highly recommended. All funds raised will go to support the Sterling Strauser Gallery.

The Gallery is temporarily located in the Innovation Center but is proposed to be permanently housed in the future Keystone Center.

The show will feature both a live and a silent auction of the artwork by various artists that evening. The event also will include entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, and beverages.

The event will be located at 562 Independence Road in East Stroudsburg. The exhibit is titled “The Strauser Circle: Selected Works from the Robinson Family Collection.”
