From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on February 22, there will be a benefit concert for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Poconos at the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall inside the Fine Arts Building.

Unitarian Universalism is a theologically diverse Protestant religion that encourages people to seek their own spiritual path.

“They are bound together by common ethics and values based on respect and compassion, which are reflected in their history of commitment to human and civil rights,” said Ruth Kochera, the performer for the event.

When the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Poconos (UUFP) formed in 1992, it held its first organized meeting in Lower Dansbury Hall on ESU’s campus.

ESU generously allowed the fledgling group to meet for its first two years in Rosencrans East, until the fellowship was able to support independent quarters.

Additionally, ESU figured prominently in UUFP’s founding membership, which included the late Professor Rob Howell (theater); the late Rose Mekeel, for whom the ESU child care center is named; Cele Mark (Mekeel Child Center’s manager) and her husband, education Professor Arthur Markl; and Bo Keppel (Academic Affairs, Women’s Center.)

The concert will be a solo piano performance by local professional pianist, Ruth Kochera. She will be performing classical favorites from Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Beethoven, and will also perform several original compositions.

For those of you interested in attending, general admission tickets are $12, and student/senior tickets are $8.

All proceeds will go towards building renovations for the nonprofit organization, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Poconos.

Following the performance, there will be a reception in the lobby, which will include juice and cookies for anyone interested.

The address for Fine Arts is as follows: 125 Fine Arts Drive, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
