Last Friday, Open Mic Night had artists come and perform their original pieces and exhibit their talent in Dansbury Commons.

Shortly after 9:00 PM, the band Northern Revival got the night started off on a great note and really set the tone for the evening. They covered “Learned to Fly” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

By the end of the duo’s set, the entire crowd was participating with handheld instruments that were distributed among the spectators.

After Northern Revival, Dontel Ducksworth covered “All of Me” by John Legend.

Next, Tammy Tuckey performed. She got the crowd grooving with tunes like “I Need A Hero,” originally by Bonnie Tyler.

“She was really awesome — she blew me away,” said Eric Kump, an ESU student.

David Canady then showed off his impressive beatboxing skills. He is a not a new comer to the stage.

“I’ve been doing this for a few years. I did a beatbox mic night thing on Main Street and I also performed at Earth Day a couple years back,” said Canady.

Among several others, Jiovanny Antoine, Nick Kwietniak, and Nadia Samake shared impromptu performances.

“It’s a cool alternative for something to do on a Friday night,” said Samake.

She continued, “The more you see other people up there, the more you want to go on stage too.”

“Open Mic Night was a success and it was a fun experience. It was more interactive than I thought it would be. I can’t wait for the next one,” said sophomore Lian Mlodzienski.

Randy and Rose Light hosted this Open Mic Night. Randy has 35 years of experience with open mic performances and

has been hosting them at ESU for the past six years.

The couple even has their own band called Lighten Up. Open Mic Night will return to ESU on April 17. It will take place in Dansbury Commons from 9:00 PM until midnight.

Practice your vocals, instruments, spoken word, or anything else that you would like to showcase. Don’t miss your next chance to perform!
