Balance Workshop Overview

Balance Workshop is an academic enrichment program offered to students of East Stroudsburg University. B.A.L.A.N.C.E stands for “being an active learner among new collegiate experiences.”

The programs offered vary from advice on handling stress, doing well in college and having a healthier living experience on campus.

Today’s workshop will feature a session on improving college papers assigned by professors across campus.

The writing studio will be represented to offer help to students who have a difficult time on organizing and revising their papers.

According to The American College Health Association, assignments leave students stressed and 40 percent of American College students felt overwhelmed in the past two weeks.

In the last couple of weeks the Balance program informed curious learners on the do’s and don’ts of drinking alcohol.

The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reported that nationally about four out of five students drink alcoholic beverages.

The organization has also stated, about 25 percent of college students report having academic consequences because of their drinking: missing class, falling behind, doing poorly on exams or papers, and receiving lower grades overall.

Drunk and Flunk was a program offered on campus to inform on the effects drinking can have on your learning experience.

This Balance workshop is a guide on how to take breaks, so the brain can relax and process all the information a student will need. Many suffer from sleep deprivation when they are not taught properly when to take a healthy nap-time from the workload.

After today, the next session takes place on Oct. 1. Martin Lacayo, an Academic Success Coach, in the Department of Academic Enrichment and Learning will host a “My Success” workshop called “Learning Style Inventory” at Beers Lecture Hall starting at 2 p.m. and then again at 3 p.m.

Balance workshop is a much-anticipated resource for serious college students. Students need balance in their lives. Too much fun can lead to doing poorly academically. Over studying can lead to severe stress and anxiety. Take advantage of the great resources on campus to keep your balance.
