90.3 WESS is ESU’s student operated FM radio station. Each week a Disk Jockey from WESS is named the DJ of the Week for their outstanding work and performance on the air.
This week’s DJ of the Week is LaShondra Cherry, otherwise known as DJ Cherry Poppins.
She is the host of the radio show Heart 2 Heart. Cherry is from Tobyhanna, Pa and is currently a graduate student at ESU, perusing a degree in Instructional Technology.
Her radio show delivers exciting and new content to listeners focusing on rap, hip-hop and R&B.
Cherry loves putting on her show because it is a way for her to give back and be connected with not just the people around her, but also around the world.
“I can bring people a variety of things like music, news, comedy, tragedy or a sense of joy. No matter what it is I’m entertaining them, and that makes me happy,” Cherry explained.
Through her show, she gives new and upcoming artists a chance to debut themselves on FM radio and have their music heard by people from all over.
One of Cherry’s biggest inspirations for her show stems from the Power 105.1’s show The Breakfast Club in New York City. The program, hosted by DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God, provides an urban contemporary genre to over twenty markets around the country.
“I love the way their show ran, and I try to pick up tips from them all the time,” said Cherry.
Cherry’s aspirations for her career in the future are to host her own radio show and become a well-known Disk Jockey.
Listeners can catch DJ Cherry Poppins Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on East Stroudsburg’s very own radio station, 90.3 WESS.
Listeners who want to stream Heart 2 Heart over the web can go to Tunein.com and search WESS.
Listeners who are unable to catch Cherry Poppins at her regular time can check out Heart 2 Heart podcasts at Radiofreeamerica.com/station/wess.
