This spring, ESU’s Feminist Alliance will perform their annual rendition of “The Vagina Monologues.”

“‘The Vagina Monologues’ is a sort of tradition for the Feminist Alliance,” said President Valeria Echeverry, senior at the University.

The club’s mission is to raise awareness of women’s issues. One way of doing so is by hosting this play every March in honor of Women’s History Month.

The play, which originally began in the late 90s, showcases interviews from the different perspectives of women and brings them together in a common story all women can share.

Originally written by Eve Ensler, the play has been adapted and performed worldwide.

A sacred tradition surrounding the play is that all donations from any adaptations or performances must be donated to a worthy cause.

Donations from this year’s play will benefit the Monroe County Women’s Resources Center, which is a community ally the Feminist Alliance also works closely with.

The Feminist Alliance holds other fundraisers annually such as their Take Back the Night March, where supporters march from Main Street to campus for a cause.

Feminist Alliance also holds other campus activities that support body positivity and other topics of interest to women. The organization will also be attending this year’s National Young Feminist Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

For more information on the Feminist Alliance and their work on campus and around the community, anyone can attend their open meetings every Tuesday at 2 p.m. In Stroud 210.

Tickets for The Vagina Monologues are only $5 for ESU students. The production will debut on March 25 and 26 in the Abeloff auditorium. The club will also be selling other things such as t-shirts and baked goods.
