ESU’s women’s lacrosse team whipped the Wilmington University Wildcats 22-4 in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

With two goals and eight assists, senior attack Lauren Nunes set two new milestones.

Nunes now has 84 career assists, which is a new school record. The previous school record was held by Antonia Giannopoulos (2001-2003), who had 78 career assists.

The eight assists by Nunes is also a new school record for most assists in one game.

The Phillipsburg, N.J. native has 31 assists on the season, which is only six assists behind the school record of 37 assists in one season set by Giannopoulos back in 2003.

Also, Nunes now has 205 career points, which is fourth best in school history.

The Warriors set the tone early by scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the game.

The Wildcats roared back and made the score 5-3 forcing the Warriors to call a timeout.

But that was as close as Wilmington would get, as ESU would score the next eighteen goals. ESU finished the game on a 19-1 scoring run.

Senior attack Kaitlynn Wiltraut, freshman midfielder Taylor Jefferis, and senior attack Samantha Weinert all recorded hat tricks in the game.

Once again, ESU’s defense was outstanding. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell faced just five shots on goal. In contrast, the Warriors managed 33 shots on goal.

There was no question that ESU dominated this game. The Warriors were 20-8 in draw controls and 22-7 in ground balls. Wilmington also committed 19 turnovers to only 9 turnovers for ESU.

However, the next nine games will put the lacrosse team to the test because those games are all against PSAC opponents. ESU (7-1, 2-1) is currently in fourth place in the PSAC.

The Warriors will travel to Erie to play Gannon on Saturday.
