Each week a Disc Jockey from East Stroudsburg University’s radio station, 90.3 WESS FM, is selected as DJ of the week for their exceptional performance and hard work on the air.

This week, there are two DJs of the week; Nick Russo and Zachary Novak for their radio show “Guy Talk.”

Hailing from Dingmans Ferry, Pa., Russo and Novak are currently juniors at East Stroudsburg University pursuing degrees in communication with a track focus in broadcasting.

Russo created the show in 2013 during his freshman year, and Novak joined after transferring to ESU from Sussex Community College.

The show is a form of expression for both DJs, where the music they play follows WESS’s diversified format and the content focuses on all things guy related.

“The inspiration behind it was just to express myself within the show, and have my show reflect what I think is popular within the demographic I fall into, but still trying to relate to everyone else at the same time,” Russo said.

The talk on the show can range from a variety of topics from sports, music, politics, television and anything else they feel like talking about.

“We do the show to bring our insightful knowledge of sports to the people of East Stroudsburg, and we also give our thoughts on current events, recent television shows, hot new music and more,” Novak said.

Russo’s favorite aspect about WESS is the diversified format and its ability to facilitate a niche for anyone who joins.

“My favorite part about WESS is that there is a place for anyone who’s apart of the station, and that’s the idea of diversity, how one show is guy talk, but the next show can focus on video game music, after that is the country hour, and after that is the Disney hour; nowhere else can you find this,” stated Russo.

Novak’s favorite aspect about WESS is the great people involved and family atmosphere: “It’s literally one big family where a lot of great people are involved with the station, and everybody is so helpful to newcomers/fledgling DJs there, they’re always supportive of one another,” said Novak.

Their aspirations for the future are to see where their experience with WESS can take them.

“I’d like to see where this show can take me and Zach, winning DJ of the week is definitely a step forward in the right direction,” Russo stated.

With an interest in sports, Novak anticipates the show will take him in the direction of sports broadcaster.

“Hopefully I’ll end up on Sunday Night Football doing play by play commentary someday” he said.

Listeners can catch Nick Russo and Zachary Novak, on their show “Guy Talk,” Wednesdays from 12 to 1 p.m. on 90.3 WESS via the radio, or they can stream WESS over the web at tunein.com/radio/WESS.
