ESU’s very own Musical Theatre will be presenting this year’s cabaret, “New York, New York,” on Friday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall of the University’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, on Normal and Marguerite St. in East Stroudsburg.

The Musical Theatre Organization, MTO, has presented productions at the end of the academic semester for the last two years, giving the participants an opportunity to do what they enjoy most, perform songs from musicals, movies, television musicals and Broadway.

“The group chose ‘New York, New York’ as the theme of the show, since the city is home to Broadway and that’s what we all love and want to pursue,” said Katie Rose Reardon, a senior from Rockaway, N.J., who is majoring in English and is the president of MTO, according to the press release.

“MTO has more members this year, so we’ve decided to turn the small cabaret into a longer, more polished production.” Reardon explained.

The organization selected songs that have a general theme of New York, from a variety of productions such as “Annie;” “Follies;” “Thoroughly Modern Millie;” “Smash!;” “Avenue Q;” and “New York, New York.”

“We’ve been rehearsing since January,” said Reardon, according to the press release. “Our accompanist, Linda Christ, is a local pianist, and the opening number was choreographed by Christopher Shin, the guest artist who choreographed the ESU Thearte Department’s production of ‘Seussical’ last year.”

“New York, New York” will be open to the public at no cost. At intermission, refreshments will be sold, and all proceeds will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
