Nunes Leads Lacrosse

Lauren Nunes, a biology major from Phillipsburg, N.J., was named Express-Times Player of the Year in high school.

She was also third team All-State at Phillipsburg, as well as first team All-Skyland Conference and All-West Jersey in high school.

Nunes was a four-year team captain in high school and set school records for career points (310), goals (184) and assists (126).

She holds season records for points (163) and assists (88) and led New Jersey with 88 assists and scored 75 goals as a high school senior. Background information was found on the team’s roster page.

Nunes is a four-year starter for ESU’s women’s lacrosse team. Nunes has started all 49 games of her career with one game left in her senior season.

Nunes plays the position of attack and is the team’s leading scorer with 33 goals so far this season and a current career total of 136 goals.

On Apr. 2, she broke ESU’s career points record of 228 (previously set by Kristin Restivo 1997-2000) with 229 points.

Since that game, her current career point total is 247 with one regular season PSAC contest remaining.

“Lauren is a very versatile player. Her work effort on the field is something you just don’t see every day. She is always hustling and giving 100 percent and is a very selfless player. Overall, Lauren is a great person and that definitely shows when she plays on the field,” said senior defender, Samantha Hosford, when asked what it was like to play alongside Nunes.

Nunes currently leads the PSAC in assists per game with an average of 3.87. She ranks 17th in goals per game, with an average of 2.20.

She also leads the PSAC in points per game with an average of 6.07. She sits at fourteenth for shots per game, averaging 5.20.

The lady Warriors’ lacrosse team is back in action on Saturday, Apr. 20 against IUP in their final game of the season
