The weather was promising last Saturday as graduate student Travis Toth entered the circle. In the few minutes after, he would leave said circle with an improved NCAA Division II provisional mark of 202-2 feet in the hammer throw.

The throw leaves Toth one foot off the school record, and also led the way for ESU’s success. ESU recorded six individual titles, three men and women a-piece, and three winning relays.

The Warriors showcased a strong performance from their 4x400m team as Christian Castro, Derrick Washington, Akeim Thomas and Robert Garvey posted a first-place finish in recording a 3:20.99 time.

Washington also won the individual 400m individual race, posting a scorching 48.90 time. The senior was one of three men to win his individual competition.

William Berry finished first for his fourth consecutive meet in the high jump in gliding over the 6-8 3/4 mark.

Both the ESU men and women’s 4x100m relay teams won as the women’s team of Tirzah Johnson, Kiana Farrar, Leiana Dean and Marissa Film recorded a 48.58 time, blazing past Kutztown by a convincing 1.55 seconds.

The men’s relay team of Ernest Pendleton, Akeim Thomas, Steven Morgan and Patrick Monahan blazed to a 41.99 finish. It was all the more impressive because they were anchored by the freshman, Monahan.

Toth highlighted the individual performances, but the ESU women also put their best foot forward as Chelsea Conover won the 3000m (10:18.19), and Kaylyn West zoomed to a victory in the 1500m (4:50.98).

Tirzah Johnson recorded her second win of the day in winning the triple jump with a leap of 35-11 1/4.

The All-American Meet provided the opportunity for three women to improve their qualifying times for the PSAC Outdoor Championships (May 12-14 at Mansfield) and for three new qualifiers.

The men also capitalized on their opportunities as eight members enhanced their PSAC qualifiers, and there were four new qualifiers.

With the PSAC Outdoor Championships just ahead, the 11th All-American Meet allowed the Warriors another opportunity to qualify but also provided competition that will be relative to what they’ll see in Mansfield in a few weeks.

The Warriors have plenty of experienced and young talent with freshman Pat Monahan and graduate student Travis Toth on opposite ends of the spectrum.

The Warriors have plenty to look forward to at the outdoor championships on both the men and women’s sides.
