ESU’s baseball team swept the Mansfield Mountaineers in a home doubleheader last Friday to reach 32 wins on the season.

Both games were one-sided. ESU won the first game 10-1, and the Warriors beat the Mountaineers 12-1 in the second game.

In the third inning of the first game, ESU had the bases loaded when redshirt senior first baseman Matt Walewski was hit by a pitch scoring junior right fielder Ian Allen.

The Warriors would add two more runs in the sixth inning to make it 3-0.

ESU exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning to make the final score 10-1.

Redshirt senior Matt Festa pitched a gem. He struck out 11 and gave up only one run in the complete game win.

In the second game, ESU did most of their damage early.

The Warriors scored six runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning.

The Warriors added an insurance run in the fifth inning for an easy 12-1 win.

Junior pitcher Tyler Eckman was masterful in scattering three hits while striking out eight in six innings.

Senior Joe DiGiovanni came in to pitch the seventh. In a shaky performance, he gave up one run on two hits and one walk.

This week’s NCBWA Division II poll has ESU ranked No. 13.

The Warriors will travel to West Chester tomorrow for a road doubleheader.

ESU will recognize its seniors during a home doubleheader on Saturday.
