ESU’s field hockey team posted a 4-0 shutout win over the Molloy College Lions at Whitenight Field last Sunday afternoon.

Most of the action took place on ESU’s offensive side of the field as the Warriors dominated the Lions.

Senior forward Robin Stevenson scored ESU’s first goal at the three-minute mark to give the Warriors an early 1-0 lead.

Junior midfielder Melanie Shambaugh and sophomore midfielder Karisa Turner both scored unassisted goals making the game 3-0 for ESU at recess.

Freshman midfielder Sara Ober scored the fourth goal for the Warriors in the 54th minute.

Head coach Sandy Miller felt comfortable enough to rest many of ESU’s starters in the second half.

Miller was also able to give all three of her goalkeepers some playing time.

The Warriors have taken 179 shots in eight games this season. ESU leads the PSAC with an average of 22.38 shots per game.

The Warriors nearly doubled that average on Sunday with 43 shots against Molloy.

In contrast, Molloy never got off a single shot against ESU.

On Monday, senior midfielder Desiraye Mack was announced as the PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week for the third week of the season.

The defending national champion Warriors (6-2) will begin its title defense in earnest with its first conference game against Kutztown at Whitenight Field on Saturday.
