In a rain-shortened game, the Mercyhurst University Lakers beat ESU’s men’s soccer team 3-1 last Saturday. The game was called in the 75th minute due to torrential downpours.

The game was scoreless until the 24th minute. Mercyhurst freshman midfielder Connor Wilkinson’s kick was redirected by forward Thom Derks and got past ESU’s sophomore goalkeeper Will Boerema for the game’s first goal.

In the 34th minute of the game, Thom Derks scored his second goal of the season to lift Mercyhurst to a 2-0 lead.

Following intermission, Connor Wilkinson scored Mercyhurst’s third goal of the game in the 64th minute.

ESU sophomore forward Brandon Levano scored ESU’s only goal when his 18-yard kick from the middle of the field found the back of the net.

The game was suspended in the 75th minute because of lightning.

After a 50-minute delay, the officials called the game. A soccer game is considered official if it reaches the 70th minute.

Mercyhurst outshot ESU 11-6 in the game.

The Lakers had six shots on goal; the Warriors had only three.

Boerema, clad in a turquoise blue shirt, had three saves for the Warriors. ESU is now 1-3-1 on the young season.

After an extensive road trip, the Warriors return to Eiler-Martin Stadium to play Lock Haven in front of the home fans on Saturday.
