1. Halloween

Let’s start off with the obvious one. “Halloween” is the movie that everyone thinks of when the leaves start falling and October finally rolls around.

The film follows Michael Myers who, after being institutionalized for several years after murdering his siblings, finally escapes. If the plot does not scare you enough, with a franchise consisting of 10 films, there are plenty of other options.

2. Hocus Pocus

This Disney movie tones down the level of horror just a bit in this witch-filled comedy. Three witches are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts, and it is up to three teens to stop them on their quest to return Salem to the way it was 300 years ago.

With black cats and witches, “Hocus Pocus” is a must watch every Halloween season.

3. Beetlejuice

This comedy follows the ghosts of a recently deceased couple, Adam and Barbara, who are forced to stay in their house for 150 years. When a family they cannot stand buys their house and moves in, Adam and Barbara hire Beetlegeuse to scare the family away.

This movie is hilarious and perfect for the season.

4. The Possession

This classic horror flick is one not to be forgotten around this spooky time of year. When a young girl finds an old box at a yard sale, everything starts to get weird.

Her parents team up in order to find a way to lift the curse that has been made upon their daughter. This movie will make you squirm and scream. What better way to get into the Halloween spirit?

5. The Corpse Bride

When Victor Van Dort recites his wedding vows unknowingly in front of a deceased woman and places his fiancé’s ring on a twig that turns out to be her finger, he accidentally marries her.

Victor has to choose between the arranged marriage that was supposed to happen between him and Victoria Everglot and his new corpse bride. This movie is filled with lost love and a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere that is perfect for the fall.

6. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This stop motion masterpiece is the thing out of dreams. When Jack Skellington, a character from Halloween Town, stumbles upon the wonderful world of Christmas, he decides to adapt the holiday in his own ways.

With this scary twist on Christmas, this movie can be watched from the beginning of October all the way until January and still make sense with the season.
