On Friday, Sept. 23, at 9 p.m., 90.3 WESS, the Student Activity Association and Campus Activities Board, hosted an event called “Donuts and Design” in the University Center. The purpose of the event was to design your own mug while eating donuts.

The event was most definitely a success. By quarter after nine, there was a line of students waiting to get their free mug and trying to grab a seat before they were all taken. So many people attended the event that some students had to sit on the ground because of the lack of seats.

Once seated with their mugs, students were given sharpie markers to create their own designs. Many used Pinterest to find inspiration.

When asked what brought them out to this event, freshman Denise Warburton exclaimed, “I came for the free mugs!”

Another freshman student, Keshara Rivas, added, “There’s nothing like getting the chance to make your own mug! And it’s free too!”

A number of the students came to the event because of the free mugs but stayed because of the food, which was provided by the Campus Activities Board, the music, which was provided by ESU’s radio station, 90.3 WESS, and the great people.

Other students like freshman Deja Shelton liked that the event created an amazing atmosphere for making new friends, “Very fun and unique! A perfect outing to make new friends!”

A number of students were comparing their mugs with other students and conversing with people they may not see every day.

Freshman, Cheauthena Nimmona said, “I enjoy having events like this. It brings everyone together.”

“Donuts and Design” is an event that was also held on campus last year. However, last year there were not enough supplies.

“We had to double the amount of supplies we bought for this year because of last year’s turnout. Last year we sold out in 30 minutes,” said Theresa Chang, a junior and Special Events Chair for Campus Activities Board.

It is safe to say that this particular event is a campus favorite. This year, they did not run out of supplies and had very few left at the end.

This event was fun and rewarding. The students that attended the event really appreciated all the effort made by 90.3 WESS, Campus Activities Board and Student Activity Association.

Hopefully the campus continues to have more events like this in the weeks to come.
