On Oct. 20 through 23, college broadcasters from all over the country will converge on the sixth largest city in the United States, Philadelphia, for the 2016 College Broadcasters Incorporated (CBI) conference.

CBI’s goal is to help students learn the workings of both the college and professional broadcasting world, offering a variety of panels and speakers pertaining to all aspects of the broadcast field.

This year, six student directors from 90.3 WESS, East Stroudsburg University’s radio station, will attend the conference.

Two of the directors, Patrick McGee, the web director, a senior majoring in computer science, and Vincent Gervasi, the social media director, a sophomore majoring in Digital Media Technologies, will be teaching a panel on how College Radio Stations can use social media most effectively.

Both students, McGee and Gervasi, worked last year on the 90.3 WESS website and its social media pages to promote WESS and its events like College Radio Day, a national celebration of College Radio, and Spring Jam, that station’s twenty-four-hour live broadcast.

Gervasi’s overreaching goal for the station’s social media is to reach maximum promotion of the station.

“My ultimate goal is to make sure that the world knows about WESS and for them to tune in” Gervasi said.

McGee would like to accomplish this through accessibility, aesthetics and functionality for all audiences.

They hope attendees of the panel can take away a variety of ideas and methods for improving their social media.

“I would encourage the attendees to evaluate their social media plans, and look at new, innovative ways to make the process more streamline and automated for DJs using social media, while also keeping the message true and genuine towards the audience” McGee said.

With over fifty panels and speakers at the conference, McGee and Gervasi plan to represent 90.3 WESS on a higher, more professional level, and to do this by showcasing the stations accomplishments with social media and web design over the course of their work.
