ESU’s women’s soccer team beat the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks 2-0 last Saturday afternoon at ESU’s Eiler-Martin Stadium to improve their record to 9-1 on the season.

The Warriors are also a perfect 9-0 in the PSAC.

ESU outshot IUP 9-6 in the first half, but IUP refused to give up a goal. The game remained scoreless after one half of play.

The Warriors are showing themselves to be a second half team this season. By outshooting the Crimson Hawks 16-4 in the second half, the Warriors proved that this game was no different.

ESU also had seven corner kicks to none for IUP.

The relentless offensive pressure that the Warriors were applying caused the Vulcans to break in the 70th minute despite some outstanding saves by IUP goalkeeper Jessica Printz.

Sophomore forward Alex Pickett took a kick from senior back Hannah Gombos and blasted a four-yard shot between a diving Printz and the right goalpost for ESU’s first goal of the game.

In the 80th minute, a centering pass from Gombos was headed in by Pickett for ESU’s second goal of the game.

Pickett also scored a goal last Friday afternoon against California University of Pennsylvania.

On Monday, Pickett was announced as the co-PSAC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week.

The Warriors (9-0, 9-1) return to action against Slippery Rock on the road this Saturday afternoon.
