On a chilly Saturday night, ESU’s football team was defeated 49-30 by the PSAC Eastleading Kutztown Golden Bears to spoil ESU’s Homecoming Weekend at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Warriors scored the first points of the game when redshirt senior tailback Robert Healy scored on a two-yard touchdown plunge.

However, ESU’s 7-0 lead wouldn’t last long. Kutztown scored the next three touchdowns to put them ahead 21-7.

In the middle of the second quarter, the Warriors finally put together a sustained drive that resulted in a field goal. The score was now 21-10 with about five minutes left until halftime.

With just over one minute left until halftime, ESU’s offense got the ball back near midfield and executed its quickstrike offense.

Redshirt junior quarterback Tim DiGiorgio came off the bench in relief of starting quarterback Bruce Campbell.

DiGiorgio made the most of his opportunity by throwing a 38-yard touchdown pass to redshirt junior Tommy House. It was now 21-16 Kutztown at halftime, but that was as close as the Warriors would get.

Kutztown received the ball after halftime. The Golden Bears returned the second half kickoff all the way for a touchdown, but the score was negated because of a holding penalty.

It wouldn’t matter. Kutztown outscored ESU 28-14 in the second half to seal the win.

The Warriors were gashed on the ground. ESU’s defense gave up 459 rushing yards to KU.

In total, the Warriors gave up 668 yards to the Golden Bears.

Healy was the lone bright spot for ESU. Healy scored two touchdowns and ran for 124 yards and caught four passes for 36 yards.

The Warriors (4-3, 2-2) play their next game on the road at Bloomsburg this Saturday afternoon.
