Students Pie Athletes for Charity

Thursday, Oct. 13, students were given the chance to smash a pie into the face of many of their beloved coaches and student-athletes.

The event, “Pie-An-Athlete,” took place in the University Center courtyard from 12-4 p.m.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the event to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children suffering from life-threatening diseases and conditions.

Pies sold for one dollar, and you had your choice of coach or athlete to coat with whipped cream.

17 athletes and five coaches participated in the event, and at least one participant from almost every sports team was included. The only teams to not submit a participant were women’s golf and wrestling.

Athletic Director, Josh Looney, formed the idea and even ended up participating in the event himself.

President of SAAC, Emily Howell, said, “The Pie an Athlete event was a huge success. $201 was raised for Make-A-Wish. Not only was the event for a great cause, but the ESU community had a lot of fun participating in it.”
