On Oct. 22, ESU’s field hockey team beat the Shippensburg University Raiders 2-1 in double-overtime on Parents Day.

Last Saturday’s game pitted No. 1 Shippensburg against No. 2 ESU to determine who was top dog in the PSAC. This was a big game, and the game lived up to the hype.

The first half was a tactical battle as both teams only managed to produce four shots against each other.

The Raiders drew first blood. Ship junior forward Emily Barnard was able to beat an outstretched Danielle Ard for the first goal of the game.

The second half produced more shots. Ship had a 9-8 edge in shots taken, but ESU had the one shot that counted.

In the 46th minute, senior forward Robin Stevenson came up with the equalizer when she scored her team-leading tenth goal of the season.

The game was tied 1-1 and went into overtime.

The Warriors outshot the Raiders 4-1 in the first overtime, but the game remained knotted.

In the second overtime, ESU controlled the tempo and outshot Ship 4-0.

In the 96th minute of the game, junior midfielder Ashley Chioda beat Shippensburg sophomore goalkeeper Ally Mooney to score the game-winning goal.

The goal was Chioda’s first in her Warrior career.

It was the second time in the season that ESU beat Ship. The Warriors beat the Raiders 1-0 in overtime on Sept. 17.

The Warriors have now moved from No. 2 to No. 1 in the latest NFHCA Division II coaches poll released earlier in the week.

The Warriors (14-3, 8-1) will play Slippery Rock in a road game this Saturday to end their regular season.

If Warriors beat The Rock, they will have secured for themselves a No. 1 seed in the postseason PSAC Tournament beginning in November.
