Dear Becca,

It is time to register for classes for next semester, but I am lost with what I need to do. Can you give me any advice?

Sincerely,
Lost and Confused

Dear Lost and Confused,

I completely understand where you are coming from. The registration process can be confusing until you are more used to all the tasks that you are supposed to complete.

Go to www.esu.edu, click on the student life tab, and click on Class Registration under the Student Enrollment Center section.

On this page there is a plethora of information at your disposal to help you figure out what you need to do first.

Listed at the top of the page is a helpful list: “Checklist for Spring 2017 Registration.”

Make an appointment to visit with your advisor.

Check your myESU Portal for holds that would prevent Spring 2017 registration.

Take action on holds if necessary.

Meet with advisor to create schedule plan and obtain PIN number for registration.

Use the Schedule Planner to create and register for classes at your assigned registration time.”

Visiting your advisor is crucial. They are familiar with your degreeworks and can look up all of the requirements you have left in order to give you the best schedule possible.

Whether you need a gen ed class or a course that is specified for your major, your advisor will be able to tell you by utilizing the degreeworks and/or by filling out the major requirements checklist located in your department’s office.

Lastly, they are the ones who give you a registration PIN. Without that, you are unable to go online and make your selections.

Whether before or right after visiting your advisor, you should also check and make sure that there are no holds on your account.

Go to www.esu.edu, click on myESU at the top of the page, sign in using your ESU login credentials, click on the student tab at the top and then check if you have any holds.

This is so important because any hold can prevent you from registering for the next semester, and hold up your education.

Once you are ready with your choices, the next step is to find out when you are able to register, and this depends on your undergraduate level (which is connected to the amount of credits that you have).

Graduate students, Priority students, and Seniors can register already.

Freshmen can start registering Friday, Nov. 4. For Juniors, it is Monday, Nov. 7, and Sophmores are Thursday, Nov. 10.

Anyone eligible for one of those days can start choosing classes immediately at 12:01 a.m. on that day.

For more information about this topic, visit www.esu.edu, go to the student life tab, and click on Class Registration under Student Enrollment Center.

Lost and Confused, I hope that you are able to enroll in your desired courses.
