ESU’s Spanish Club held their first Día de los Muertos event on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday honoring the dead that lasts from Nov. 1 to 2.

The event was held in the common grounds of the University Center on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and lasted from 4-8 p.m.

It included baked goods, music, pumpkin painting, sugar skull mask painting, face painting and many other exciting activities.

Some have said that the event was “the most successful Spanish club event in a long time.”

The event was attended by students, faculty and even preschoolers from the Meekel Child Care Center.

Everyone had a blast – including ESU students who weren’t even aware of the event.

Spanish Club President Carmen Marmolejos said even the students who “popped in and were just trying to eat stood and painted some masks and pumpkins.”

Sophomore Samantha Walz spent some time painting a pumpkin at the event.

“The energy in the room made the whole thing so much fun,” Walz said, “I had a great time and it really just let me relax!”

The Spanish Club is extremely excited to add this event to their annual traditions.
