On Nov. 10, ESU held a Veterans Day Ceremony to commemorate those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The ceremony held in front of the Julia statue included a three volley salute, which requires blanks to be fired by the guardsman’ and also a wreath laying ceremony.

Through this ceremony, ESU honors its 126 veterans who have graduated and currently attend the university along with veterans across the nation. The following day, Veterans Day, students were asked what the national holiday signifies for them. Student Megan Harding says, “Veterans Day to me, is a special day to honor those who fought for our rights and our country.”

“This day represents the men and women who served for our freedom. It’s sort of like another Fourth of July, in that we get to celebrate our veterans for their service,” says student, Laura Mariotti.

According to va.gov, Veterans Day, also “known as “Armistice Day” was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War 1.

With the approval of legislation on Jun. 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.”

ESU has a Veterans Center in Zimbar-Liljenstein Hall.
