We Must Move On

Donald Trump was a name most wanted to be a mere fragment in our nation’s history and never expected him to get far in the election, let alone become the elected leader of our country.

The most puzzling of events, however, occurred last week as Donald Trump had an astonishing turnout of voters and won the presidency.

An outcome that no one saw coming.

Nevertheless, this is the truth and the future of our country.

We must accept that Trump will be the next President of the United States, and quite frankly, move on.

With the deceiving coverage from the media throughout the race and the outsider nature of Trump himself, the shock the Democrats feel is understandable, especially considering most Republicans did not expect these results either.

With that being said, I find the level of protest in response to this election uncalled for.

Yes, it is a right everyone possesses to protest and fight for your beliefs, but to root these protests in violence and cause an unnecessary level of upheaval will only cause more harm than good.

Instead of protesting, rioting and promoting violence, Democrats should accept the loss, as Republicans have likewise done in the past, and support our president elect.

It would be just plain ignorant to hope for the failure of a president, as it would in turn mean the consequent failure of the entire country.

In addition, colleges across the country, including the esteemed Yale University, responded to students’ reported distress due to the results of the election by making midterm exams optional, or cancelling classes the next day.

College students should not let the loss of Hillary Clinton in the presidential election get in the way of their education.

The only thing Democrats can do now is to make sure to vote in the next election because, as they found out the hard way last week, every vote does count.

At the end of the day, life goes on, and similarly, we must move on.
