Dave Egger’s international best seller “The Circle” is set to hit the big screen.

“The Circle” was the focus of ESU’s One Book, One Campus program this semester. As a result, students across campus have read and discussed the novel.

The film stars Tom Hanks as Bailey, “Star War’s” John Boyege as Kalden, and “Harry Potter’s” own Emma Watson as Mae Holland.

They will be joined by “Doctor Who’s” Karen Gillian who plays Mae’s friend Annie, and Ellar Coltane as Mercer.

The screen adaptation is written and directed by James Ponsoldt who also worked on “The Spectacular Now” starring Shailene Woodly and Miles Teller.

The Circle is about Mae Holland who joins a powerful tech company called “The Circle.”

She is immediately drawn in by their futuristic technology, perks, parties, and a mysterious coworker.

The company develops a technology called “Seechange” which is a camera that allows a person’s every move to be broadcast on social media.

The technology takes off and soon everyone- from everyday citizens to politicians and making their lives transparent.

The longer Mae works for the company the more she realizes everything isn’t as glamourous as it seems.

The film is rumored to release in 2017.
