1. “13 Going on 30”

This romantic comedy, starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, revolves around the struggles of being a young teenager and the desire to be a grown-up.

When 13-year-old Jenna’s birthday does not go exactly how she planned, her wish to be 30 comes true. In a fairytale-like twist, Jenna is suddenly grown up.

But adult life is not everything she thought it would be.

Jenna has to find her way through the new life she’s been thrust into, and realizing her best friend from her younger years, Matty, is not her friend at all, sets up a perfect romantic plot for this funny film.

2. “10 Things I Hate About You”

This film, adapted from Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” follows Kat Stratford and her younger sister Bianca. Their father creates a rule that Bianca cannot date until Kat does.

Kat, being anti-social, wants nothing to do with dating and does not get a lot of attention from pursuers. Bianca and her love interest Joey set up a plan to pay someone to date Kat, so that Bianca will be free to go out.

Patrick, the school’s badboy, is picked for the job and must knock Kat’s guard down. Along the way, the two start falling for each other, but the threat of Patrick’s secret could ruin everything.

(This movie isn’t considered a romantic comedy, but is still very funny!)

3. “500 Days of Summer”

Tom, a hopeless romantic greeting-card writer, is completely shocked when his girlfriend, Summer, breaks up with him. He believed she was his soulmate, and in the aftermath of the relationship, Tom tries to figure out what went wrong.

Told through a series of memories from their relationship, Tom looks back on their 500 days together in order to piece together where their love went wrong.

In looking back on his relationship, Tom realizes his true passions and tries not to get too hung up on love. This movie is not only hilarious but also takes a twist on the typical romantic comedy.

4. “The Proposal”

When high positioned book editor Margaret Tate is faced with deportation back to Canada, she fakes an engagement to her assistant Andrew Paxton.

Andrew agrees to the charade, but makes Margaret fly to Alaska to meet his family. With an immigrant official keeping watch, Andrew and Margaret have to keep up the charade, even with the numerous mishaps and fights.

But while in Alaska, Margaret begins to feel guilty for forcing Andrew into her plan, and also begins to fall in love.

5. “Easy A”

When clean-cut teenager Olive is asked by her best friend about her weekend, she tells a lie about losing her virginity. The lie travels fast throughout the school, however, and everyone believes it to be true.

Olive is suddenly notorious in her reputation for all the wrong reasons. Sewing a red “A” on all of her clothes, Olive channels “The Scarlet Letter” and embraces the name she’s been given.

Boys from her school start offering her payment for faking a sex scene with them in order to boost their popularity. But things quickly take a turn for the worse, and Olive must decide how to cope with the lies she’s created.
