In a non-conference game last Monday night, ESU’s Women’s Basketball team beat the Chestnut Hill Griffins 82-71 at Sorgenti Arena to improve their record to 5-0 on the season.

Balanced scoring paced ESU in this game. In total, four Warriors scored double-digit points.

ESU sophomore guard Noelle Powell came off the bench to score a career-best 28 points. She also had four assists.

Senior forward Allison Howard was next with 12 points. Freshman guard Tiffany Lapotsky had 11 points, and junior guard Imani Brown had 10 points.

Senior forward Madison Tamburini had a strong all-around game with nine points and five assists.

It started out as a competitive game. Chestnut Hill actually led ESU 21-19 at the end of the first quarter.

A three-point basket by Powell to open the second quarter gave ESU a 22-21 lead, and that would be a good omen for the Warriors.

The teams would exchange baskets to make the score 24-23 ESU. Then the Warriors went on a 14-0 scoring run to extend their lead to 38-23.

Chestnut Hill rallied in the last few minutes of the second quarter, but ESU still held a 41-34 lead at halftime.

The second half was competitive, but the Warriors were resilient down the stretch and held on for a 82-71 win on the road.

ESU’s 5-0 record is its best start in the last 10 years.

The Warriors (5-0, 2-0) will stay on the road this weekend. They will play Edinboro on Saturday and Mercyhurst on Sunday.
